Today, among Hindi speakers throughout the world, namaste is a simple greeting to say hello. It’s often used in more formal situations, like when addressing someone older or someone you don’t know well. But that’s all it means — hello.

Namaste is an expression of appreciation and respect towards another person, entity or deity. It can be used as a hello greeting and even as a goodbye, so you might say Namaste upon meeting someone, or before parting ways.

The Right response to Namaste is stating back Namaste to the next individual. It’s a Hindi word for saying Hello or welcome some individual more seasoned than you.

Namaste is usually spoken with a slight bow and hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointing upwards, thumbs close to the chest. This gesture is called añjali mudrā; the standing posture incorporating it is pranamasana.

Namaste is the common greeting in yoga. Most say namaste as a means to thank the teacher or use as an expression of relief upon the ending of the class. In modern cultures, however, namaste is taken to a new level of meaning. It goes beyond a spiritual chant and a divine greeting.

Pranaam is used as a way to show respect. In other words it’s shows you consider the other person to be intellectually or physically (by age, power etc.) superior. Moreover it also seeks the blessing from the said superior person.

It is done to offer respect to God. It is symbol of complete submission that reminds devotees to respect God and cultivate humility. Those who have not studied Vedic literature simply offers his obeisances before the Deity or spiritual master and by doing that ( Dandavat Pranam), He will become perfect.

Daughters are considered as Goddess Lakshmi of the home. Hence not supposed to touch feet of others in the house. Also, the daughter will be given out in marriage (kanyadaan) and till then she is supposed to be the cherished one in the family.

The Electra complex is a term used to describe the female version of the Oedipus complex. It involves a girl, aged between 3 and 6, becoming subconsciously sexually attached to her father and increasingly hostile toward her mother.

This sort of divine status is not allowed in Islam. Although,as a form of normal respect touching feet is allowed by some scholars but since this practice can lead towards shirk or form of salutation which suppress the normal salutation which is preferred and is sunnah of Prophet therefore it is discouraged.

Actually, touching feets of elders is something which is discouraged. Some scholars say that it is permissible while others believe that it is not allowed. In both views it is to be discouraged.

Kissing out of honor, respect, and even forgiveness is a tradition that is incorporated into many Christian denominations.
