18 “Endgame” (Book One, Episode 12) The first time Korra tapped into the Avatar State followed her final battle with Amon. After Aang’s spirit restored her bending, she immediately entered the Avatar State, bending each element in a show of force that proved that her bending had been restored.

Korra’s severance from her past lives was sad but inevitable and necessary, due to the lore of the Avatar world, the show’s themes, and Buddhism. While Korra is able to resuscitate Raava by the season’s end, her connection to the past Avatars is permanently severed.

But the Avatar State is the combined abilities/knowledge/power ect. of all the Avatar’s past lives to create an extremely powerful entity. It was established earlier that due to previous events (that I will not elaborate on) Korra had severed her connection with her past lives, and could not communicate with them.

Jimu- The Avatar born after Korra died. He has an incredibly rebellious attitude that often gets him in trouble. Jimu’s goal in life is to kill Shi so he can’t terrorize or kill anymore people than he already has.

After failing to guide Korra into the Spirit World, Tenzin sadly admitted that he had never entered it before.

Asami
While the series finished in 2014, the adventures of Korra and Asami didn’t end there. DiMartino continued Korra’s story in comic book form, with two new arcs published via Dark Horse Comics. Not only do they extend the narrative of The Legend of Korra, but they show Korra and Asami as a full-fledged couple.

Kyoshi was the Earth Kingdom-born Avatar immediately succeeding Avatar Kuruk of the Northern Water Tribe, and preceding Avatar Roku of the Fire Nation. She was also not recognized as Avatar until she was sixteen; instead, her friend Yun was declared the Avatar.

The first episode of season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender shows Aang entering the Avatar State again to save Katara. Fong tricks Aang into believing he killed Katara and Aang’s emotions activate the Avatar State again. Aang can’t control it, even after Katara is confirmed to be alive, and destroys his surroundings.

• Tai chi forms the basis of waterbending.
• Hung Gar forms the basis of earthbending.
• The Northern Shaolin system forms the basis of firebending.
• Ba Gua forms the basis of airbending.
• Pro-bending is heavily influenced by aerial acrobatic martial arts in concurrence with MMA and UFC styles of fighting.

After being physically traumatized and poisoned by Zaheer, Korra has a PTSD-like mental block that prevents her from entering the Avatar State. Learning from Toph that she still has metallic poison inside of her, Korra metalbends the toxin out of her and reestablishes her link to the Avatar State.

This moment in The Legend of Korra is special because it’s not just the first time we see Aang outside of flashbacks, it’s also the first time Korra is able to enter the Avatar State and establish a connection with her previous lives.

Stretched across both series are a plethora of memorable scenes involving the Avatar State, some of which action-packed and others more emotional. Some of the most exciting moments in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra involve Aang & Korra activating the all-powerful Avatar State and unleashing the might of the four bending arts.

Realizing that everyone he has ever known is now dead, Aang collapses mentally and his Avatar State takes over. Establishing the connection between Aang and Katara, she is able to pull him out of the Avatar State by showing Aang that he isn’t alone and that she and Sokka are his family now.
