The distribution of large-scale ecosystems (biomes ) is determined by climate. Latitude, air pressure and winds are important factors that determine the climate of a place.

How does latitude affect the distribution of biomes? Latitude affects the distribution of biomes as the sun’s rays shine directly at the equator, making it hotter, while the heat is spread out at the pole.

Tropical rainforests are found closer to the equator where it is warm. Temperate rainforests are found near the cooler coastal areas further north or south of the equator. The tropical rainforest is a hot, moist biome where it rains all year long.

As you move away from the equator north or south you enter the temperate climate zones. The temperate zones have colder winters with short days and hot summers with longer days. This is the climate zone of the United States.

At the low latitudes (0° to 23°) of the Tropics, the sun’s rays strike the Earth most directly. As a result, the biomes located there (tropical rainforest, tropical grassland, and the warm desert) receive the most sunlight and have the highest temperatures.

There are five major types of biomes: aquatic, grassland, forest, desert, and tundra, though some of these biomes can be further divided into more specific categories, such as freshwater, marine, savanna, tropical rainforest, temperate rainforest, and taiga. Aquatic biomes include both freshwater and marine biomes.

In North America there are about six major biomes.

Most countries actually only have a low variety of biomes, but some other countries with a very large variety of biomes include China, Chile, Brazil, South Africa, Madagascar, and Australia.

The Indian peacock is a graceful bird, which was blessed with the title of India’s national bird and is the owner of the world’s most famous tails.

These birds are often carefully selected because they represent something notable about the country itself. Not all countries have national birds, and in some countries, a bird generally viewed as a national symbol may be widely recognized but lack the official government acknowledgment of its honorary status.
