No RoboLights in 2020; new site in Desert Hot Springs still in development. Robolights, the quirky and contentious holiday light display in the California desert, will not happen in its new Desert Hot Springs location this year.

Kenny Irwin has turned his dreams, and his nightmares, into a California reality. The 43-year old Palm Springs artist runs Robolights, a two-acre, colossally quirky homage to giant robots, aliens and dinosaurs. “We live in a very colorful world. And I like things to be colorful,” he says.

I love spending Christmas in Palm Springs because the temperatures are cooler, and there are plenty of family-friendly things to do. It is one of the busiest times of the year due to the school’s holiday break, but that is also what makes it more fun.

The best time to visit Palm Springs is between January and April when the weather is the most hospitable. Fall’s temperatures are almost as nice, but unless you love the heat, we wouldn’t recommend visiting in the summertime when daily highs regularly reach the triple digits.
