Gecko’s are not toxic for your dog, though it can cause a blockage in your pet or even upset his stomach. If it bit him in the mouth or tongue he could have some swelling or pain associated with the bite. If your pet exhibits one or more of these signs a trip to the vet is highly recommended.

Is that lizard poisonous, and will the lizard make your pet sick? Because of their small size, North American lizards are easy for dogs and cats to catch and eat. Fortunately, these small lizards, like the tiny gecko or anole, are not poisonous for dogs and cats to eat.

Your pet is unlikely to try to eat large venomous lizards such as Gila monsters (common to the Southwestern desert in the U.S.) or monitor lizards (found in the subtropics of Florida). However, since these lizards have enough venom to kill a dog or cat, keep your pet from trying to play or fight with them.

They seldom cause any harm to the dog. They are not toxic. Some reptiles can carry salmonella bacteria, and an occasional dog may get a bacterial infection. I will sometimes see parasites that dogs have picked up from eating lizard feces.

Lizards and dogs can get along. Bearded dragons, leopard geckos, and blue-tongued skinks can become great friends for your canine companion. Pets are wonderful companions to humans, but sometimes they just can’t get along with each other.

Dogs are highly sensitive to new smells, and housing a reptile is sure to introduce many of those. This ability to memorize familiar scents can be critical in a dog’s ability to acclimate to the presence of a lizard in the home.

So, in an ideal situation, dogs and geckos shouldn’t really interact. There have been cases where they can get along, but most commonly, they don’t. Because of the ancestry instincts of dogs, if your gecko is scared and decides to run, it can provoke your dog and lead to fatal consequences.

Leopard geckos are one of the best reptiles for beginners, and their docile, friendly nature means that they are likely to get along with everyone in the family – including the resident canine!

Leopard geckos can be quiet territorial with each other, being loners out in nature. Leopard geckos will also fight each other by biting tails, they might even throw in some slaps in the mix. The gender of the lizards doesn’t matter. Female leopard geckos will display territorial behavior as swiftly as the males.

Housing two male leopard geckos together is generally a bad idea. They can be territorial, and will very likely fight. Fighting between two males can result in injuries. It’s not uncommon for a leopard gecko to not only lose the fight, but frequently lose its tail as well.

House and leopard geckos can live together in smaller enclosures, with a 20-gallon tank suitable for a pair of leopard geckos and a 30-gallon tank suitable for a group of four to five house geckos.
