Marginal cost (MC) is the extra cost incurred when one extra unit of output is produced. Average product (AC) is the total cost per unit of output. When the MC is smaller the AC, the AC decreases. Similarly, when the MC is greater than the AC, the AC is pulled up.

The biggest difference between the two cable systems is that MC has full size ground wire while AC uses a combination of the jacket and a thin bonding strip or wire to function as the equipment ground. Note: Early AC cable often does not have this bonding wire. Now AC cable cannot be used in exterior or damp locations.

According to NEC Article 330.30, MC cable must be supported and secured at intervals of 6 feet or less (unless routed through a framing member) and cables containing four or fewer conductors sized no larger than 10 AWG must be secured within 12 inches of every termination.

Type MC Cable without an outside nonmetallic jacket can be installed in an “other space used for environmental air” in accordance with Section 300.22(C). These cables can be installed either indoors or outdoors and in exposed and concealed locations. They can be direct buried, where identified for such use.

While you can secure MC with cable ties, you would need a “listed” connector at the box. Someone posted to use an EMT to flex coupling: This is not code compliant. The individual conductors, in MC, are not approved for use in other raceways without being in the MC jacket.

No problem running the cable above ground, so long as the cable is suitable for the weather and for any likely mechanical damage it may suffer. I would choose 3 first, or a modification of 1 to have armoured cable run on a specific support structure near ground level.

Although the Hazardous Locations section of NEC Chapter 5 requires threaded rigid conduit (RMC) or threaded steel intermediate conduit (IMC) for the real hardcore hazardous (classified) locations, MC cable is allowed in some installations with some listing restrictions.

MC in PVC in a slab on grade is a violation. It may not be a violation. Section 330.10(11) that you quoted states when it is allowed.

MC connectors are specially designed for low contact resistance and good stable connections under a wide range of conditions. MC means “multi-contact.” The term “multi-contact” comes from the fact that the connectors have a bunch of little spring loaded gold plated fingers that ensure good contact.
