EDUCATIONAL INTERPRETER PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

EIPA stands for Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment and is a tool for providing licenses to educational interpreters who work with deaf or hard of hearing students. EIPA is now used by most states to certify that an interpreter can work in a school but the requirements of a passing score differ.

The fee for the EIPA Written Test is $250.00. A credit card is required at the time of registration. In addition to the test fee, a proctor fee may be due when you arrive at the test site.

It generally takes rating teams approximately 1.5 hours to rate and report on each assessment.

RID Certification RID certifications are a highly valued asset and provide an independent verification of an interpreter’s knowledge and abilities allowing them to be nationally recognized for the delivery of interpreting services among diverse users of signed and spoken languages.

The NIC Knowledge Exam is a computer-based test (CBT) consisted of 150 multiple-choice questions that assess whether a candidate has the knowledge required to achieve national certification. Candidates had three hours to complete the exam.

Interpreters and translators generally do not need any formal training, as they are expected to be able to interpret and translate before they are hired. NIC Certification Process

1. Review all pertinent NIC webpages on the CASLI website.
2. Apply for the NIC Knowledge Exam.
3. Pass the NIC Knowledge Exam.
4. Submit proof of meeting the educational requirement to RID.
5. Apply for the NIC Interview and Performance Exam.
6. Pass the NIC Interview and Performance Exam.

EIPA is performed by the EIPA Diagnostic Center situated at Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. The Center was established in 1999 and is the only one of its kind not only in the USA but in the world.
