The moderator of the General Assembly is the chairperson of a General Assembly, the highest court of a Presbyterian or Reformed church. The moderator calls and constitutes meetings, presides at them, and closes them in prayer. The moderator has a casting, but not a deliberative vote.

Minister. In some denominations they are called Ministers of Word and Sacrament, and in others they are called Teaching Elders. Ministers called to a particular congregation are called pastors, and serve a function analogous to clergy in other denominations.

The term “Reformed” describes a Calvinist tradition within Protestant Christianity that is distinct from Lutheran and Anabaptist branches. “Presbyterian” is the name of a denomination, as well as a form of church government in which elders govern local churches and whose theological convictions are Calvinist.

As a moderator, your duties involve providing discussion topics, encouraging participants to share, removing unrelated or inappropriate content, answering questions, defining group boundaries and rules, and updating the platform. You also have the authority to decide what information is approved or removed.

An event moderator is the master of ceremony of the event. He or she is there to make sure the speakers can do the best job and the audience gets the most out of the day or session. A moderator introduces speakers.

The difference between presbyterian and protestant is that Protestant Christians are a large group of Christians with reformed thinking. A foundational document for Presbyterians, the “Westminster Confession of Faith,” clearly asserts the doctrine of predestination. The “Confession” affirms that humans do have free will, reconciling it with predestination by assuring believers that their state of grace will call them to choose godly lives.

While most Presbyterian churches accept moderate drinking, the current Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America constitution advises that, “it is altogether wise and proper that Christians refrain from the use, sale and manufacture of alcoholic beverages.”

The Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland is Calvinist in doctrine, worship and practice and the community believes and professes that it accurately practices and adheres to the Word of God: the Bible.

Five Presbyterians signed the Declaration of Independence. But the church split during the Civil War over how the Bible was interpreted. Many Southerners felt the Bible provided justifications for slavery, and Northerners said there was no justification.

The terms Calvinist and Presbyterian have overlapping meanings, yet there are differences between them. A Calvinist is someone who subscribes to the teaching of John Calvin. A Presbyterian is someone who attends a church in the Presbyterian tradition, which is named after a form of government that is elder-led.
