Academic Integrity is a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to five fundamental values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility. Acts such as plagiarism, impersonation and cheating are considered a direct violation of academic integrity and will result in severe penalties.

8.1 Advanced Credit Examinations Approval by the student’s academic advisor, appropriate department chair, and home school/college is required in order to take an Advanced Credit Examination. The student must earn a grade of C or higher to pass the exam.

The grade of “XE” denotes failure due to academic dishonesty and is treated the same as an “E” for the purposes of GPA, course repeatability, and academic standing determination. A student may not avoid any penalty for academic dishonesty by withdrawing from a course.

Being charged with academic dishonesty is not reported to Financial Aid. Any effects resulting from being found responsible for academic dishonesty would be indirect.

Do not falsify or alter a record, health slip, or grade, or permit another person to do so. Avoid even the suspicion of collusion. Do not allow any possibility that someone else could copy your work or assignments or exams. You do not want to be accused of abetting someone else’s academic misconduct.

As for academic transcripts, if a permanent F in the course is assigned as the sanction, the F remains on your transcript and is factored into your GPA (see FAQs above). However, your official academic transcript does not explicitly state that an academic integrity violation occurred.

5 Tips for Students Accused of Online Academic Misconduct

1. Do not respond to the charges without consulting a lawyer.
2. Hire a student defense lawyer.
3. Take a look at your school’s Code of Conduct.
4. Document the alleged incident of academic dishonesty.
5. Keep your case to yourself.

Academic integrity includes a commitment to the values of honesty, trustworthiness, fairness, and respect. These values are essential to the overall success of an academic society. In addition, each member of the university community has a right to expect the highest standards of academic integrity from all other community members.

Only students who have attempted no more than 30 credits or the equivalent of two full semesters may apply for academic renewal. A GPA of 3.0 is required for the first semester (full-time students) or first 12 credits (University College students).

Academic integrity violations that do not involve course work may also be noted on a student’s transcript. Such violations appear on the transcript as “Academic Integrity Sanction” with the date the sanction was imposed.

When an “F” grade for course failure is imposed for an academic integrity violation, the grade on the transcript will be marked with the notation “ (X).” The failing grade is counted toward the GPA.
