The most obvious, and perhaps only true use of epic simile in Beowulf is the “Father’s Lament,” which begins on line 2444, recounting how King Hrethel must feel in the aftermath of one son’s murder by another, by comparing him to an old man whose young son is hanged.

The Beowulf poet uses a simile to describe Beowulf’s journey across the ocean: “Over the waters did the ship move by the wind’s might, like a bird with foam plumage.” The simile helps to create an image of a boat that moves swiftly, fearlessly, and full of determination.

Beowulf’s victory is also foreshadowed by his rhetorical defeat of Unferth in the mead-hall, and by the story of his defeat of the sea-monsters. By removing all doubt about the outcome of the fight, this foreshadowing creates a sense that in this moment Beowulf is invincible.

Beowulf is considered an epic hero because his bravery has won many battles. This bravery also makes him a tragic hero because he is a great man with the tragic flaw of pride, which leads to his death.

But it did in the movie. Hrothgar named Beowulf his successor for ridding them of Grendel “and Grendel’s mother”, even though he hasn’t really killed Grendel’s mother and Hrothgar seems to know that. But then, everyone sleeps with her in the movie.

Beowulf was not a hero because he wanted fame for his deeds, was born a noble, and only thought about himself. Beowulf wanted fame and fortune for his deeds. The definition of a hero is someone who does an honorable deed for someone without wanting a reward for their actions.

Wiglaf describes the inside of the barrow and the treasures, some of which he brought out so that Beowulf could see them. He also tells the other Geats about Beowulf’s last wish: a barrow built on top of his funeral pyre that will serve as his memorial.

Beowulf’s Dragon is a well-known dragon from Norse Mythology from the epic Poem “Beowulf”. In the 2007 film based off the poem, the dragon is a shapeshifting Wyvern-like creature and is the son of Beowulf and Grendel’s Mother. …

The lair becomes brighter after Grendel’s mother dies, and Beowulf is able to inspect his surroundings. He finds Grendel’s body and, to take further revenge, he decapitates the corpse. When Beowulf cuts off Grendel’s head, the water heaves and surges, and they can see blood.

Hrothgar asked Beowulf to battle Grendel’s mother because the king believed he was the only man capable of dealing with such monsters. This was because Beowulf had earlier succeeded in mortally wounding Grendel. Grendel’s mother is grieving for the loss of her son, so she seeks revenge and attacks Herot.

After Grendel is killed, Grendel’s mother attacks Heorot in revenge. Beowulf then ventures into her cave under a lake, and engages in fierce combat with Grendel’s mother. She nearly kills him until he sees an ancient sword, with which he kills her, and beheads the dead Grendel.

Why does Beowulf cut off Grendel’s head? To avenge the attacks on the Danes.

What is ironic about the way Beowulf kills Grendel’s mother? Beowulf kills Grendel’s mother with her own sword. Although she was attempting to avenge the death of Grendel, she herself slain by Beowulf. Beowulf wants Grendel’s head as a trophy to replace the shoulder, arm, and claw stolen from Herot by Grendel’s mother.

Although his sword, Hrunting, loaned to him by Unferth, fails to penetrate the mother’s hide, Beowulf discovers a giant magic sword in the cave and is able to kill the mother with it. The sword melts to its hilt after Beowulf uses it to decapitate the corpse of Grendel, which lies nearby.

Once Grendel’s mother is killed and Beowulf decapitates Grendel, the blade begins to melt and eventually disappears completely because of the evil in Grendel’s mother’s blood.

As soon as he does that, the lake becomes stained with blood. The watchers ashore interprets this as a sign of Beowulf’s death of the hands of Grendel’s mother. Meanwhile, the blade of Beowulf’s new sword melts because the blood is too hot and poisonous for it.

Beowulf strikes Grendel’s mother with the sword slicing her in two and splitting her collarbones. After the attack, a light illuminates the cave, “just as from the sky heaven’s candle shines clear.” (Norton 47) Beowulf notices Grendel’s body and he instantaneously cuts off the monster’s head to present it to Hrothgar.

30. Where does Beowulf find Grendel’s mother? He has to dive for 4 hours to the muddy bottom of the lake; she finds him, attacks him, and takes him to her “home”; while all this is happening, other monsters come to see and take part. Her home is a battlehall bright with light/flame.

During his fight with Grendel, Beowulf rips Grendel’s arm off at the shoulder, mortally wounding him.

Grendel’s Arm To Beowulf and the people of Heorot, Grendel’s claw symbolizes the defeat of a monster that has threatened the kingdom for years. However, Grendel’s mother sees the arm as a symbol of sadness for the loss of her beloved son and as a symbol of how sickening the human beings are.
