The Discrimination and Stigma Scale (DISC-10) was developed as part of the INDIGO study (Thornicroft et al 2009) to address the need for a measure of experienced stigma. It also considers the extent to which participants limit their involvement in these areas of life due to anticipated discrimination.

Results: The final 28-item stigma scale has a three-factor structure: the first concerns discrimination, the second disclosure and the third potential positive aspects of mental illness. Stigma scale scores were negatively correlated with global self-esteem.

Measures have attempted to assess self-stigma by examining a person’s experience of stigma including their perceptions of specific stereotypes of mental illness (Ritsher et al, 2003; Ritsher and Phelan, 2004).

The Depression Stigma Scale is designed to measure stigma associated with depression. It has two subscales which measure two different types of stigma: personal and perceived.

The Mental Health Knowledge Schedule (MAKS), the Community Attitudes toward Mental Illness (CAMI) and the Reported and Intended Behavior Scale (RIBS) were used to assess knowledge, attitude and behaviors toward mental illness respectively.

Social stigma is the term given when a person’s social, physical or mental condition influences other people’s views of them or their behaviour towards them. Members of the general public may be uneasy with someone with epilepsy.

Whereas enacted stigma refers to the perceived act of discrimination against individuals with a stigmatizing condition, felt stigma refers to the individual’s embarrassment and shame associated with the condition.

Interpersonal stigma refers to direct or enacted forms of stigma, such as verbal harassment and/or physical assault based on one’s social identity (Link & Phelan, 2001).

The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale – 21 Items (DASS-21) is a set of three self-report scales designed to measure the emotional states of depression, anxiety and stress. Each of the three DASS-21 scales contains 7 items, divided into subscales with similar content.

Information: The Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS) is a 35 item questionnaire looking at the respondents understanding of mental health. The first 15 items are scored on a 1-4 scale with items 10, 12 & 15 being reversed scored. Items 16-35 are scored on a 1-5 scale with items 20-28 being reverse scored.

DISC Test Instruction Test consists of 28 questions, you just need to choose the most suitable answer. Avoid giving neutral responses in order to get the most accurate result. Remember there are no right or wrong answers, just answer honestly how you really are, not the way you want to be.

DISC Assessment. What is the DiSC assessment? DISC is a very popular behavior assessment tool with quite accurate results. This DISC test based on the theory of psychologist William Moulton Marston published in 1928. It suggests four main personality types: Dominance (D), Influence (I), Steadiness (S), and Conscientiousness (C).

Most modern DISC tests utilize adaptive assessment, which means that the computer administrating the test will offer different questions based on the responses of the person currently testing. However, the nature of the test, being self-reported, means that any results should be subject to some skepticism.

The primary aim of the DISC study was to psychometrically validate a new instrument to measure mental health service users’ experiences of discrimination (DISC-12). This was a cross-sectional study which examined participants’ experiences of discrimination. There were three study phases.
