Creamy layer is a term used in Indian politics to refer to some members of a backward class who are highly advanced socially as well as economically and educationally. They constitute the forward section of that particular backward class – as forward as any other forward class member.

Minority, a culturally, ethnically, or racially distinct group that coexists with but is subordinate to a more dominant group. As the term is used in the social sciences, this subordinacy is the chief defining characteristic of a minority group.

It ordered 4.5% of government jobs and education places to be reserved. Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis) are the main minorities in India. The new quota for minorities will be carved from an existing quota reserved for caste grouping called Other Backward Classes (OBC).

Minorities in the Indian context means minority religions – Muslims, Christians, Jains, Sikhs etc. SC, ST, OBC are not in minority. They are not minority castes, they predominantly belong to Hinduism and are Hindus.

The Supreme Court has said the general category vacancies in public employment is open to allincluding aspirants belonging to reserved categories like other backward classes (OBCs) and Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Forward caste (referred as General Class/General Category/Open Category) is a term used in India to denote castes whose members are on average ahead of other Indians economically and socially. Those groups that qualify for reservation benefits are listed as Other Backward Class, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

OBC are socially and educationally backward to the General category. So in social terms, in India society General is above/ treated with social respect and acceptance than OBC.

As per the reservation policy of our government there are four major categories GENERAL, OBC, SC, ST. Those who come from privileged castes and didn’t face any discrimination in the past are put in this category.
