German Shepherds have been successfully mixed with Golden Retrievers, Chows, Labradors, Pugs, Siberian Huskies, Collies, Welsh Corgis, Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Poodles, Chinese Wolves, Akita, and more. Many of these mixes bring out the best traits of both breeds.

Belgian Malinois

There is no such thing as a purebred miniature German Shepherd. A mini German Shepherd is usually the result of crossbreeding a German Shepherd with a smaller dog breed. This is why mini German Shepherds often look just like small versions of their purebred mom or dad.

Pit Lab Mix Puppies The only sign that allows you to predict your pup’s appearance as an adult is his color. Pit Lab Mixes are black, brown, tan, white, and yellow. Some Pit Lab Mixes are solid in color, while others have distinctive white marks just like a Pitbull.

The Pitbull Lab mix’s head is broader than that of a Labrador Retriever but is much smaller in width than a Pitbull’s. These crossbreeds have a longer muzzle and have long pointed ears like the Labrador. The Labrador Pitbull mix, just like its parents, has a short-haired coat.

Labrabulls are also very loyal and protective of their family. If their family is threatened, they would not hesitate to display aggression. Labrabulls do well with early training, they are eager to please, and they thrive on positive re-enforcement. Make sure to establish yourself as pack leader and be consistent.

Labrabulls can develop many dangerous and destructive behavioral problems if they can’t let out all their energy.

A white mark on your black Labrador’s chest is not as unusual as you might think. This pattern actually closely resembles the St John’s Water Dog, an ancestor of the modern Labrador breed. Labradors can have white marks on their chest, feet, and tail. Although it may prevent your pup from registering as a show dog.

In fact, it’s perfectly possible for purebred black Labs, even pedigree Labs, to have white markings.

Brindle coloration comes from genetics, specifically the part of the genome called the K-locus. For any dog to be a brindle, they need to have a recessive k gene passed on from both parents. However, in Labs the recessive gene is rare, and so brindle colored labs are also quite rare.

The brindle Lab has an unusual coat. This pattern is possible in purebred Labs, or can occur as a result of mixed breeding. Brindling is a coat pattern with dark flecks or stripes over a brown base. Brindle coloring on Labradors is classed as a disqualification by the AKC, so you cannot show brindle Labs.

Because the pattern is genetic, not all breeds can be born with a brindle coating. Most dogs who have a brindle pattern are short-haired. Brindle coloring has also been observed in other animals. Horses, cats, rodents and even lizards have been known to exhibit brindle coloring.
