Alice in Wonderland syndrome (AIWS) is a rare neurological disorder characterized by distortions of visual perception, the body image, and the experience of time. People may see things smaller than they are, feel their body alter in size or experience any of the syndrome’s numerous other symptoms.

Was Lewis Carroll high when he wrote his most famous books? Alice’s adventures do sound out of the ordinary—and Tim Burton’s extreme take on the book in his new movie is getting people talking. But no evidence exists that supports the idea that Carroll wrote this story under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

When precocious Alice enters her kingdom, the Queen gets guillotines and rolling heads in her eyes, just like bullies the world over. But one of the most important lessons for any young person to learn is not to let bullies get you down and always stand up for yourself.

Riddle. In the chapter “A Mad Tea Party”, the Hatter asks a much-noted riddle: “Why is a raven like a writing desk?” When Alice gives up trying to figure out why, the Hatter admits “I haven’t the slightest idea!”.

Variety has exclusively learned that the Fox drama has cast Mexican actress Naian Gonzalez Norvind in the recurring guest role of Alice Tetch, the younger sister of Benedict Samuel’s Jervis Tetch (aka the Mad Hatter).

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass (1871) were originally written for Alice Liddell, the daughter of the dean of his college. The books brought him great fame and notoriety. Through the Looking Glass is the sequel to Wonderland and is set some six months later than the earlier book.

The Red Queen was so paranoid, she even had her husband executed, believing he would leave her for the White Queen. She was often referred to as Bloody Big Head, possibly because all her power, which she stole, literally went to her head. Her rule was harsh for all of Underland.

So far, Alice 2 isn’t appealing to as many families as other Disney live-action adaptations. Alice 2 sees Depp once again star as the Mad Hatter, while Mia Wasikowska reprises her role as Alice.

The film is an adaptation of the books by Lewis Carroll, the 1865 novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its 1871 sequel Through the Looking-Glass, which featured his character Alice. A live-action film directed by Tim Burton was released in 2010.
