Egyptian hieroglyphs and cuneiform are both logographic scripts. Hieroglyphs are written as an abjad. Cuneiform is written as a syllabary. Cuneiform was adopted as a writing system by such phylogenetically diverse languages as the language isolate of Sumerian and the Indo-European languages of Hittite and Old Persian.

Hieroglyphics was invented in Ancient Egypt about the same time as cuneiform in Mesopotamia, but scientists believe that cuneiform came first. It was initially used in Mesopotamia to write Sumerian, but later was used for Akkadian which the Sumerians, the Akkadians, the Babylonians, and the Assyrians all spoke.

The outline of the development of the Sumerian writing system has been worked out by paleographers. It has long been known that the earliest writing system in the world was Sumerian script, which in its later stages was known as cuneiform.

Egyptian hieroglyphs are another early writing system, but it’s believed that they were developed very slightly later than Sumerian cuneiform.

The ancient Egyptian language is probably one of the most widely recognized ancient languages due the prevalence of hieroglyphs in popular culture. It is often regarded as one of the oldest recorded languages and the earliest known complete sentence dates back to about 2690 BCE.

The earliest Chinese written records are believed to be from 1200 BCE from of the Shang dynasty- era. But some scholars believe that the language has roots in the Yangshao culture. At 5000-4000 BCE, remains of the pottery from Yangshao currently holds the Guinness World Record for the earliest written language.

Although the script of the two languages is very foreign to western languages, Mandarin Chinese is significantly harder than the Arabic writing system due to the complexity and multitude of its characters.

Japanese is definitely much more harder than Arabic! Arabic is only 29 letters. One of the reasons why Japanese is so hard is because of a high degree of nuance and socio-linguistic matters than is extremely hard to learn as a non-Japanese person. Japanese is very different from English, but it can be learned.

The short answer: Korean is not too difficult. On a difficulty scale, I’d say the difficulty of Korean is 4/5 or “Moderately Difficult” — harder to get to fluency for an English speaker than French or German, but easier than Chinese or Arabic.

North Frisian is spoken in the northernmost German district of Nordfriesland in the state of Schleswig-Holstein: on the North Frisian mainland, and on the North Frisian Islands of Sylt, Föhr, Amrum, and the Halligs. Linguists say that French is much easier to grasp than German. It is due to the complexity of German grammar, but German and English have the same Germanic roots making it easier for English speakers to learn German. The grammar of the French language is significantly harder than German grammar.
