A featured image represents the contents, mood, or theme of a post or page. Posts and pages can have a single featured image, which many themes and tools can use to enhance the presentation of your site.

Featured images also known as post thumbnails are a well-known WordPress feature supported by most themes. They are the primary image for your blog posts, and they often appear next to the heading on your home page and social media. All popular WordPress themes come with built-in support for featured images.

Upon activation, you need to visit the Settings » Media page to configure plugin settings. On this page, you need click on the ‘Select default featured image’ button to upload or select the image you would like to use as your fallback post thumbnail.

Thumbnail sizes is a built-in WordPress theme feature that allows theme designers and developers to define thumbnail sizes for images uploaded by the users. Thumbnail sizes apply to any and all images that you upload in your WordPress. Thumbnail size is better defined as additional image sizes.

Your WordPress featured image is the image that appears on your blog post list page, and sometimes at the top of your individual blog posts. Featured images are tucked away in the sidebar of the WordPress blog post editor, yet are a key option.

To install and activate the Default Featured Image plugin, you can go to Plugins » Add New from your WordPress admin.

1. In the search bar, type: “default featured image” and press the Enter key.
2. Find the “Default featured image” plugin and click on the Install Now button.

To align your image, you’ll be using the toolbar that appears on top of the image. The image block gives you the following image alignment options as buttons in the toolbar. If your image is smaller in width, then aligning it to the left or right will bring up text next to the image.

A featured post image is an image that is used to support a blog article or web page. You can also call it the primary image. This primary image can often be found at the top of content pages and blog articles. By default, featured images are usually pulled up first when sharing the link of an article on social media.

Don’t use or modify the Image attribute in the Default attribute group for any entities, including products. Changes that you make directly in the Default attribute group for images won’t be reflected. This option will be disabled in a future release.

The way you name your image files is very important. A good system will save you a lot of time as well as reduce the chances of losing files. There are two things to bear in mind: Names should be meaningful. You should be able to look at any file and have some idea of what it is without having to open it. Names should be part of a filing system.

For example if your filename is DSC00132.jpg and the image title is “New year party”, then the plugin will show a rename button next to the file. Clicking on rename button will change the image file name to new-year-party.jpg.

One of the best ways to help search engines and your users find these images is by giving them a meaningful filename. For example, a file name like newyork-skyline.jpg is a lot more helpful than DSC00789.jpg. Now the problem is that a lot of users upload images directly from their phones or cameras.
