The in-text, or parenthetical, citation shows your reader where your quotation or paraphrase ends. In-text citations are inserted after the final quotation marks. An in-text citation is not found in the words that you are quoting; it is something you create to identify the source for your readers.

For multiple citations in one sentence MLA, you will need to mention the name of the first author and then the “et al” phrase (that means others) excluding quotation marks. For instance, “In a discussion by Dee and his colleagues….”or you can include in-text citations in the end as (Dee et al. 43).

There are two main reasons to cite your sources when doing research. The first is to give credit to the authors of the works you are using. The second is to provide your readers with a list of additional resources on your topic.

Italics are used for large works, names of vehicles, and movie and television show titles. Quotation marks are reserved for sections of works, like the titles of chapters, magazine articles, poems, and short stories.
