Granite

An intrusion is a body of igneous (created under intense heat) rock that has crystallized from molten magma. Gravity influences the placement of igneous rocks because it acts on the density differences between the magma and the surrounding wall rocks (country or local rocks).

Igneous intrusions form when magma cools and solidifies before it reaches the surface. Three common types of intrusion are sills, dykes, and batholiths (see image below).

Intrusive Structures

• Dikes. A dike is an intrusive rock that generally occupies a discordant, or cross‐cutting, crack or fracture that crosses the trend of layering in the country rock.
• Sills.
• Laccoliths.
• Volcanic necks.
• Plutons.

The two main categories of igneous rocks are extrusive and intrusive. Extrusive rocks are formed on the surface of the Earth from lava, which is magma that has emerged from underground. Intrusive rocks are formed from magma that cools and solidifies within the crust of the planet.

Drop amethyst into your water filter pitcher or bottle and just drink the water. Amethyst is absolutely safe to drink (some crystals are NOT so please check a reliable source before ingesting gem water). Make sure to clean your amethyst before putting it into water, though (see details above).

The Greek word for amethyst translates to “not drunk,” and it is a good crystal for all types of addiction. The Greeks used to say that by keeping an amethyst in your mouth, you could drink all night and still stay sober.
