Things Not Seen is a first-person novel written by Andrew Clements and his third novel after Frindle and The Landry News. The story revolves around Bobby, who wakes up invisible, and as he tries to get back to normal befriends a blind girl.

The most important aspect of Things Not Seen isn’t Bobby’s weird condition; it is the way that he grows to know himself and learns how to love over the course of the book. Because of this, the book ends when he’s going to reveal his feelings to Alicia: I fold up the letter and stick it in my pocket.

Chicago, Illinois. In this very normal, very real setting, some very abnormal things happen. The fact that the novel is set in Chicago just makes the things that happen to Bobby seem more abnormal; it highlights how peculiar his situation is.

Because he’s worried about his parents getting arrested, Bobby decided that he needs to figure out why he’s gone invisible. He narrows down the list of possible suspects to his electric blanket, and calls Sears headquarters to ask for the list of people who have complained about the blanket.
