A cell style is a defined set of formatting characteristics, such as fonts and font sizes, number formats, cell borders, and cell shading. To prevent anyone from making changes to specific cells, you can also use a cell style that locks cells.

A cell style in Excel is a combination of formatting options, including font sizes and color, number formats, cell borders, and shading that you can name and save as part of the worksheet.

1. Click the Cell Styles dropdown, and right-click Input.
2. Select Modify.
3. In the resulting dialog, click Format.
4. Click the Fill tab and choose a different color, say a light orange.
5. Click OK twice.

On the Home tab, in the Styles group, choose a cell style.

The commands are arranged in groups: Clipboard, Font, Paragraph, Styles and Editing. The most frequently used commands, Paste, Cut, Copy and Format Painter, are the left most in the first group in the Home Tab.

When you are typing your formula, after you type a cell reference – press the F4 key. Excel automatically makes the cell reference absolute! By continuing to press F4, Excel will cycle through all of the absolute reference possibilities.

The problem isn’t in Excel, it’s in the computer BIOS settings. The function keys are not in function mode, but are in multimedia mode by default! You can change this so that you don’t have to press the combination of Fn+F4 each time you want to lock the cell.

To get to the normal operation of a particular function key, look for a key labeled something like FN (short for “function”) or F Lock (for “function lock”). Press or hold down that key (it varies from system to system) as you press the F4 key, and it should work as you expect.

Alt+F4 closes program window currently active in the Microsoft Windows. Ctrl+F4 closes the tab in the active window or open window in Microsoft Windows. In all modern Internet browsers, pressing F5 will reload or refresh the document window or page.

Alternatively referred to as Control+W and C-w, Ctrl+W is a keyboard shortcut most often used to close a program, window, tab, or document.

The function keys or F keys are lined across the top of the keyboard and labeled F1 through F12. These keys act as shortcuts, performing certain functions, like saving files, printing data, or refreshing a page. For example, the F1 key is often used as the default help key in many programs.

How to fix your Function keys

1. Restart your computer.
2. Interrupt your computer’s normal startup (hit Enter at the launch screen)
3. Enter your System BIOS.
4. Navigate to the Keyboard/Mouse setup.
5. Set the F1-F12 as the primary function keys.
6. Save and Exit.

(FuNction key) A keyboard modifier key that works like a Shift key to activate a second function on a dual-purpose key. Commonly found on laptop keyboards, the Fn key is used to control hardware functions such as screen brightness and speaker volume.

Other keys work in conjunction with the control key or the alt key or the function key. These keyboard shortcuts can do almost anything. It can tell your computer to print the document that you have open.

Revert / Invert Fn key using the keyboard To revert the Fn keys to their default usage press Fn + ESC key. If you accidentally inverted the Fn keys, you just press Fn + ESC key, then they will back to normal. So you can toggle invert them that way. If this fails you might need to change them in the BIOS settings.

This behavior may occur if the keyboard is equipped with an F LOCK toggle key, and the F LOCK key has been turned on. Depending on the keyboard model, the following keys may be alternate function keys: NUM LOCK. INSERT.

F9 is shorthand for “Fine,” which is sometimes used in chat communication. The F9 key is a function key found at the top of almost all computer keyboards. The key is most often used to open Mission Control on an Apple computer.

F Key Lock – your keyboard may have an F Key Lock key like the number lock and caps lock keys. If so, press F Key Lock to unlock the F keys. FN Key – your keyboard may have an FN key. Pressing FN may be necessary to enable the Page Up and Page Down functions.

This key might be the F10 key, F12 key or labeled with a symbol of an airplane. If wireless activity comes on or the activity light turns blue, you have enabled wireless on your system. Try connecting to the Internet again.
