The standard door width can vary, since there is a ton of variety in sizes and styles of doors. But the standard common door width for US homes is 36 inches. Other very easy-to-find sizes are 30 and 32 inches.

There is no standard width for double doors. However, the most common widths for interior double doors measure at: 60” 64”

Standard interior door jamb thickness on pre-hung doors is 4-9/16 inches. The door jamb is the frame that installs in the wall and supports the door via hinges. This thickness is designed for installation in a standard two-by-four wall (constructed by studs that are actually 1½ inches by 3½ inches).

32-1/2 inches. The rough framing should be 2-1/2 inches wider than the door itself. That leaves room for the 3/4 inch finish frame on each side of the door, and then 1/2 inch on each side for the shims between the finish frame and the rough frame.

Take three measurements inside the door frame – at the top, middle and bottom. The widest measurement determines the width of the door. Use a tape measure to understand the width of the three areas of the door frame. Run the tape measure along the width of the frame from the left to the right and record these numbers.

The standard size for a front door is 36” x 80”, or about 3′ x 6’7”. Beyond this, you can find exterior door sizes ranging from as narrow as 30” to as tall as 96”. If you have a double door entryway, the standard size will be 72” x 80”, or double the width of a single front door with the same height.

The jamb is the outermost portion of the frame on the sides and top of a door system. Measure the thickest part of the jamb. Add 2 1/2″ (Frames generally measure 1 1/4″ thick each x2). Add 3/4″ to unit width measurement.

Standard height sizes for external doors begin at 80 inches (2.03m) and go up as high as 8ft (2.44m) tall. However, the most common standard size for a front door is 80 inches (2.03m) in height and 36 inches (0.91m) wide.
