The famous car in Grease is a 1949 Ford De Luxe Convertible affectionately named White Lightning.

An iconic black convertible driven by John Travolta’s nemesis in the legendary film Grease has gone on sale for $600,000. Adorned by flames and signed by the movie’s female lead Olivia Newton-John, the custom built 1949 Mercury Series 9CM, is to be auctioned in Beverly Hills later this month.

Why The Car Flies In Grease’s Ending The most bewildering part of Grease is when Sandy and Danny climb into a car that takes off and flies into the sunset. In that case, flying a car into the sunset as a representation of Danny and Sandy’s happy ending makes perfect sense for the movie.

One of the rides used during the filming of the “Greased Lightning” scene recently became available, and Illinois’ Volo Auto Museum has purchased the car for its collection. According to TMZ, the car was in the process of being restored at a shop in California when its owner died.

He was too dizzy – minor head trauma – to race, and let Danny Zuko take over. So Danny raced Leo, and easily won, though the passenger side door of Greased Lightning got pretty sliced up thanks to Leo’s Hell’s Chariot.

The well-known “Greased Lightning” car was actually a 1948 Ford Deluxe convertible, which came with a V8 239.4 cid engine. It produced 100 horsepower and could reach top speeds of 80 miles per hour.

She called him “a fake and a phony” and ran away crying. A few days later, Danny tried to apologize by explaining to Sandy that it was him, but it wasn’t him. He was also jealous of Tom Chisum, the jock that Sandy was spending time with.

When filming began in June 1977, John Travolta was 23, Olivia Newton-John was 28, Stockard Channing was 33, Jeff Conaway was 26, Barry Pearl was 27, Michael Tucci was 31, Kelly Ward was 20, Didi Conn was 25; Jamie Donnelly was 30, and Annette Charles was 29.

The film’s opening was shot at Leo Carrillo Beach in Malibu, arguably the most filmed beach in movies and television.

Jamie Donnelly (born 1947) is an American actress. She is mostly known for playing the role of Jan in the 1978 movie Grease.

In 1978, Grease took us all back to the ’50s for a good old song and dance, with a good helping of romance thrown in, too. This film had it all—romance, dancing, sports, cars—which has given it global appeal (so much so, that almost 40 years later, it is still a top musical).

Sandy is the antithesis of Rizzo. She’s a blonde-haired, mild-mannered virgin who is saving herself for someone she truly loves.

Travolta was fascinated when the theory went viral in 2016. It speculated that Sandy drowned while frolicking with Danny on the beach at the start of the movie — and the entire story is her coma fantasy. And the happy duo flying their convertible into the clouds for the famous ending signified Sandy ultimately dying.

The Ending (And “Goodbye Sandra Dee”) Confirm Sandy Died Everything ends with a happy ending, no matter what the seeming obstacles. It’s all a little too convenient and then when Greased Lightnin’ takes off for its maiden flight, the reason becomes clear.

Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta were the lead characters in the 1978 musical Grease. The leading couple never dated in real life, though. They have been friends since they met on set. Grease depicts the story of two unlikely lovers in Sandy and Danny.

Even so, Grease 2 didn’t just fall short – it flopped with gusto. Despite having almost twice the budget of the first film, it barely made back its costs.
