‘Viking’ is a catch-all term for the people who came from Scandinavia, what is now Norway, Denmark and Sweden, between the eighth and 11th centuries, more properly known as the Norse, or Norsemen.

Danish is an adjective describing things from Denmark whereas Danes is a noun meaning people (or huge dogs) from Denmark.

The Vikings were the people who lived from the 8th century to the 11th century in Scandinavia. They came from what today is Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. During the Viking Age, they sailed around most of Europe, raiding, trading, and spreading their influence.

Through DNA testing, it is possible to effectively trace your potential inner Viking and discover whether it forms part of your genetic makeup or not. However, it’s not 100% definitive. There’s no exact Nordic or Viking gene that is passed down through the generations.

Naturaly Norway. The Vikings originated from there, and still in Norway still live the most people with Viking background.

Can we know if our ancestors were Vikings? The short answer is yes, we can. DNA testing may trace Viking background in our genetic makeup. However, Nordic ancestry cannot be proven or disproven in all cases.
