Geometry

A math compass is used to draw perfect circles. The compass works with a sharpened pencil inserted into the cam lock. A sharp, pointed tip rests on the paper that the circle will be drawn on, and you rotate the top of the compass to create a circle of a certain diameter.

Draw a straight line that is to be the first side of the triangle. Set your compasses to the length of the first side, position them at one end of the line, and draw an arc. Move your compasses to the other end of the line, and draw an arc that crosses the first. The crossed arcs mark the final point of the triangle.

Compasses are usually made of metal or plastic, and consist of two “legs” connected by a hinge which can be adjusted to allow changing of the radius of the circle drawn.

A compass is a device that indicates direction. It is one of the most important instruments for navigation. Magnetic compasses consist of a magnetized needle that is allowed to rotate so it lines up with the Earth’s magnetic field. The ends point to what are known as magnetic north and magnetic south.

How to Find the Center of a Circle

1. Step 1: Draw a Chord Across the Circle. Draw a line across the circle near the edge so it cuts the circumference in two places.
2. Step 2: Find the Mid Point of the Chord. Draw a line perpendicular to the chord, half way along it’s length.
3. Step 3: Repeat Step 2 for Another Chord.
4. Step 4: Use More Chords for Accuracy.

Contestants are allowed out of their rooms… but never go outside the building while filming. Players can’t leave the building completely until after they’re blocked.
