A researcher is someone who conducts research, i.e., an organized and systematic investigation into something. Scientists are often described as researchers.

A researcher is somebody who performs research, independently as a principal investigator, the search for knowledge or in general any systematic investigation to establish facts. Researchers can work in academic, industrial, government, or private institutions.

Researchers have a responsibility to communicate their research, to collaborate with others where appropriate and to transfer and exploit knowledge for the benefit of your employer, the economy and society as a whole. Researchers have a responsibility to behave honestly and ethically in the course of their research.
