If you can see through the stone but the image is cloudy, it is translucent. Just to name a few of the green semiprecious varieties: dioptase, atacamite, variscite, olivine and peridot stones are transparent to translucent. Malachite, on the other hand, will be translucent to opaque.

Chalcedony is a translucent variety of microcrystalline quartz that occurs in a range of colors similar to jade. Chrysoprase is a bright green chalcedony colored by chromium that, when cut into cabochons, beads, and small sculptures, will look very similar to jade.

Because aventurine is a rock, its physical properties vary: its specific gravity may lie between 2.64-2.69 and its hardness is somewhat lower than single-crystal quartz at around 6.5.

How is Murano Glass made? The typical Murano glass is made of silica and requires great accuracy! Using silica, soda, lime and potassium glassmakers will begin to heat up the elements so they melt together. They do this in a special furnace at a temperature of 1500 degrees Celcius, until it reaches a liquid state.
