Q. What was the name of the laws that Britain passed in response to the Boston Massacre?
In the spring of 1774, the British Parliament passed the Coercive Acts, which quickly became known in the North American colonies as the Intolerable Acts. The Intolerable Acts were aimed at isolating Boston, the seat of the most radical anti-British sentiment, from the other colonies.

Q. Was the Sugar Act the first tax?
While many perceived the Sugar Act as an infringement of their constitutional rights because they were, for the first time, taxed to raise revenue for the benefit of the crown, others viewed it as a tax to regulate the flow of trade and as a continuation of the existing and long accepted 1733 Molasses Act.
Q. Did the British ever let the colonies manage their own affairs?
*Parliament (the British Government) resented the colonies’ lack of cooperation during the war. * Parliament believed the colonies had too much freedom. They failed to see that they had encouraged the colonists’ spirit of independence by allowing them to manage their own affairs.
Q. Who did the revolution benefit the most who benefited the least?
The British benefited the most, from one point of view. Most of the Indians fought on their side. These Indians perpetrated no massacres or torture of prisoners on British soldiers or civilians. But from another more long range point of view, the Americans may have benefited more.
Q. How did Britain rule the colonies?
Each colony had its own government, but the British king controlled these governments. This meant that they could not govern themselves and make their own laws. They had to pay high taxes to the king. They felt that they were paying taxes to a government where they had no representation.
