The rise and growth of Indian nationalism has been traditionally explained in terms of the Indian response to the stimulus generated by the British Raj through the motives behind the colonial interest, the role of Western Thought, Education, role of Press and Literature as well as a worldwide upsurge.

Introduction. The Nationalism in India means a change in peoples understanding of their identity and sense of belonging. The growth of modern nationalism is intimately connected to the anti-colonial movement. People began discovering their unity in the process of their struggle with colonialism.

Answer. Various factors such as common race, language, religion, aims and aspirations, culture and Shared past gave rise to nationalism.

Pan-Africanism began to stress common experiences of blackness and sought the liberation of all black people around the world. African leaders became more influential in the movement as they used it to attack colonial rule, and the movement would become more African-based after 1945.

Decolonization, process by which colonies become independent of the colonizing country. Decolonization was gradual and peaceful for some British colonies largely settled by expatriates but violent for others, where native rebellions were energized by nationalism.

The process of decolonization coincided with the new Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States, and with the early development of the new United Nations. Decolonization was often affected by superpower competition, and had a definite impact on the evolution of that competition.
