As expected, Meta has now introduced WhatsApp channels (after being in beta testing) for people to spread important information to others. This feature was first introduced on Instagram in February and takes inspiration from Telegram channels. Take a look at the details below.
New WhatsApp feature for advanced users!
WhatsApp channels will be handy for businesses and also creators to provide important updates in the form of photos, videos, text, stickers and even polls to people who have subscribed. The status section of the app will be replaced by updates, which will include both status and channel updates.
This works along the lines of the Broadcast feature on WhatsApp but is more refined. So if you subscribe to your football club, you can easily get all the updates. WhatsApp will feature a searchable directory that can help you find channels based on your hobbies, sports teams, and more.
Channels will also follow the Privacy Rule. Admins can be sure that their numbers and display photos will not be shared with people who follow their channel. This also applies to followers. Admins will get some checks. For example, they can decide who can follow their channels and whether they want them to be searchable or not. In addition, screenshots and the ability to forward updates may be blocked.
