WhatsApp has been quick to add new features to its popular messaging app in recent times. After recently rolling out the ability to leave groups silent (via Twitter), the company is now testing the ability to add more people to group chats. WhatsApp has doubled the limit of group participants over time, and it will soon get another increase. Let's look at all the details in this article.

WhatsApp Community vs WhatsApp Group Review 2024

For the longest time, WhatsApp only allowed users to add up to 256 members to a group conversation. This limit was raised to 512 participants just a couple of months ago, along with the launch of a new WhatsApp calling interface and up to 32 participants in a voice call.

According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, the messaging app is now trying to double the group participant limit again. In the latest Android and iOS beta (version 2.22.21.74), WhatsApp is testing adding up to 1,024 people in a single group chat. This appears to be another important step towards supporting the launch of the Communities feature in the messaging app in the coming months.

As shown in the screenshots above, you will now see the new limit of 1,024 participants while creating a new group on WhatsApp. However, you will need to be one of the lucky few beta testers to whom the feature has been rolled out. We tried to independently verify these claims, but the feature is not active for us – neither on iOS nor Android beta.
