Incessant spam texts are one of the biggest problems with WhatsApp today. Any company you've given your contact number to can start bombarding you with promotional texts over the app. It has become such a problem that I have more ads in my chat feed than the people I talk to. That might be the reason WhatsApp adds PIN authentication for usernames for unknown senders.
WhatsApp's new username PIN: Here's how it's a game changer to reduce spam and… #news #shorts
According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp Beta version 2.24.18.2 for Android gives us another glimpse of the upcoming username feature. This allows you to find others and connect with them through the app using their unique usernames instead of phone numbers as we traditionally do.
What is exciting this time is that we get to see a new security measure, which goes by the name – Username PIN. This feature allows users to set an additional layer of security. So anyone with their username will also need the PIN to contact someone on WhatsApp. Note that this will only be required when messaging someone for the first time.
This will put a stop to the spam and promotional texts that can flood your chat window. You would also get an option to display only your username or contact number. This will add an extra layer of privacy for the user. Usernames have been in development for a while now and should be nearing completion. But if you want a chance to test this feature right now, you can download the latest WhatsApp Beta update from the Google Play Store.
