Ferrets require distemper vaccinations at 8, 11 and 14 weeks, a rabies vaccination at 12–16 weeks of age and annual distemper and rabies vaccinations.

Ferrets can carry bacteria and parasites such as Campylobacter, Salmonella, Giardia and Cryptosporidia in their intestinal tract and spread them to people cleaning their cages and litter boxes. Ferrets can also be carriers of ringworm fungus, fleas and scabies mites that can infect their handlers.

Rabies. All ferrets should be vaccinated against rabies. Two inactivated (killed) rabies vaccines are approved for use in ferrets in the United States: Imrab-3 or Imrab-3 TF (Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health) and Defensor 1 or Defensor 3 (Zoetis, Parsippany, NJ).

If you have been bitten by an animal or another person:

1. clean the wound immediately by running warm tap water over it for a couple of minutes – it’s a good idea to do this even if the skin does not appear to be broken.
2. remove any objects from the bite, such as teeth, hair or dirt.

What do I do if I find myself in a situation with a dog that is aggressing towards me?

1. Avoid eye contact.
2. Turn your body slowly to the side.
3. Cross your arms.
4. Completely ignore the dog.
5. Be still for a short period then move slowly away.
6. Try to get to a place where there is a barrier between you and the dog.

Try to stop the bite from going near your legs, face and neck. Don’t attempt to pull your arm outWhen pit bulls attack, they cause damage to their prey with what’s called the “bite, hold and shake”. Try forcing your hand down into its throat to make it choke.

You should only let your dogs work out their own arguments if there’s not much to work out in the first place. As for two adult dogs, I would raise my eyebrows if they were making ugly faces at each other every day, even if they didn’t actually fight.

Can dogs live together after fighting? The answer is, most of the time, YES. There are times when dogs may be like an incompatible couple and need to divorce, but in general, there are things you can do to help combative pups get along.

The Dominant Dog May:

1. Push her way to be first in or out of doorways.
2. Claim the best sleeping area or nudge other dogs out of theirs.
3. Not give much attention to the other dogs.
4. Appear to be jealous when you give the other dogs attention.
5. Mount the other dogs.
