On 11 December 2018, Jewell was appointed as director of football at Swindon Town. On 25 October 2019, Jewell was fined and handed a three-match stadium ban after using abusive/insulting language towards a match official during a game against Bradford City earlier in the month.

Jewell failed to galvanise a promotion push and resigned as manager in December 2008. The 56-year-old took charge of Ipswich Town three years later but left in 2012. He has since held assistant roles at West Bromwich Albion and Oldham Athletic and now works as director of football at Swindon Town.

What does this mean? In short: Derby will not be hit with a points deduction and relegated to League One for the 2021-22 season.

Despite their similar backgrounds, a bitter rivalry developed between Revie and Clough while they were managers. In 1974, when Revie became England manager Clough, to the astonishment of the football world, took over at Elland Road.

Charismatic, outspoken and often controversial, Clough is considered one of the greatest managers of the English game. His achievements with Derby and Forest, two struggling provincial clubs with little prior history of success, are rated among the greatest in football history.

Clough was rightly praised for his ability to get the players to buy in to what he wanted to do, both in terms of motivation and understanding. It’s the crucial “other half” to great coaching. You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t transmit them to your players, it won’t do much good.

Firstly because his trophies were harder to win and secondly because of his over all contribution to the game during the last 40 years. As good as Clough was, he was a manager who couldn’t really move with the times and reinvent himself, to recreate his ideas and his teams anew.
