East
Although in its simplest form, Levante means “East” in Spanish, it is more commonly associated with a region and a wind. The East Coast of Spain, from Almería in the South, to Girona in the North, has been historically referred to as “El Levante”.

However, in its normal usage, the Levante specifically refers to the Valencian Community, Murcia, Almería, the Balearics and the coast of Catalonia. Its literal meaning is “the east”, and thus makes sense only from the perspective of those who live to the west of Valencia, Catalonia, or the Balearics.

They include the Spanish regions of Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands and parts of Aragon and Murcia, as well as the department of Pyrénées-Orientales (including Cerdagne, Vallespir and Roussillon) in France, the Principality of Andorra, and the city of Alghero in Sardinia (Italy).

Levante UD was formerly registered as Levante Football Club on 9 September 1909 (celebrating its 100th anniversary on 9 September 2009).

Sergio Postigo Redondo (born 4 November 1988) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Levante UD as a central defender . Born in Madrid, Postigo finished his development at CD Leganés, and made his senior debut with the reserves in the regional championships.

The 2019–20 season was Levante Unión Deportiva ‘s 81st season in existence and the club’s 3rd consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football. In addition to the domestic league, Levante participated in this season’s edition of the Copa del Rey. The season was slated to cover a period from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020.

In 1934–35, both Levante and Gimnástico debuted in the second division, when the league was expanded from 10 teams to 24.
