The cotyledon is described as a seed leaf that stores food in the form of starch and protein for use by the embryo. An embryo of a monocotyledon (monocot) plant has one cotyledon, while that of a dicotyledon (dicot) plant has two cotyledons.

Food for the developing embryo is provided by the massive starch-filled female gametophyte that surrounds it. The embryo develops and is fed by the nutritive tissue of the female gametophyte.

In angiosperms, the process of seed production begins with double fertilization while in gymnosperms it does not. In both monocots and dicots, food reserves are stored in the endosperm; however, in non-endospermic dicots, the cotyledons act as the storage.

Plants are called producers because they make – or produce – their own food. They convert these ingredients into food by using energy from sunlight. This process is called photosynthesis, which means ‘making out of light’. The foods are called glucose and starch.

Use your flashlight to look for ants behind or under refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, sinks, and cabinets. Ants may also be found in or around floor drains, inside the motor areas of refrigerators and microwaves, behind wall paper, and in cracks and crevices in cabinets and around walls.

Ants Need Moisture If water is no longer available in their colonies, they will look for other areas where they can get fresh supplies. That is why if there’s high humidity in your house, ants will be attracted to it even if there’s no food around. In their search for water, they may discover your home.

Sometimes can bring ants with you from outside or from another area of your house where ants are congregating. Ants also could have found their way into your bed because you turn your sleeping area into a picnic area too often. Make a few changes to remove the ants — and to keep them at bay.

How to Find an Ant Nest Indoors

1. Look for Wood Shavings – This could be a sign of carpenter ants.
2. Look for Swarmers – First, determine if the “ants” are really ants and not termites.
3. Look for Dead Ants – Piles of dead ants, particularly around a window, is another sign of an interior infestation nearby.

Dead ants will definitely attract more ants. As we’ve briefly mentioned during the intro, dead ants release pheromones upon death. Once they’re fluids flow out, other ants in the area will get a signal of danger.
