DuPont State Forest is located in Western North Carolina near the South Carolina state line, and is less than an hour drive (40 miles) south of Asheville. Choose from 86 miles of trails in the 10,000-acre forest. While most people visit DuPont to hike, it’s also one the Asheville area’s best places for mountain biking.

Triple Falls in DuPont State Recreational Forest offers a unique opportunity to stand in the middle of a waterfall! After enjoying the view of all three cascades from the main trail, take the staircase down to the flat rock plateau between the falls. But no swimming or wading is allowed due to currents.

The section of Cascade Lake below Hooker Falls has become a popular swimming attraction for locals, though the Forest Service does not encourage swimming at this location or provide any supervision.

Three Sisters Pass is a 3.1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Canmore, Alberta, Canada that features a waterfall and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, rock climbing, and snowshoeing and is best used from May until October.

Triple Falls — DuPont State Recreational Forest Triple Falls is the third of the Little River, and consists of three distinct cascades totaling about 120′ in vertical drop. Featured in the movie Last of the Mohicans, Triple Falls is about a seven minute walk from the Hooker Falls parking area.

First time visitors often come for views of falling water and lush forest growth – with popular attractions including High Falls, Triple Falls and Hooker Falls. Find directions to the High Falls Access Area and information center, or view maps of the forest and trails. Maps were disabled by the visitor on this site.

At about a third of one mile is the very scenic Triple Falls There is a trail that takes you to the middle of the 3 step falls. Extreme caution should be used in this area as well as any other trail near waterfalls in DuPont State Forest. At about the 1 mile mark the trail either continues to follow the river or veers right up the hill.

The trail follows a wide, graveled path, diving deeper into the forest and following the river’s broad meander. The forest is lush, shaded by tall trees above and covered in vibrant green moss and orange-brown leaves below. Leathery-leafed and gnarly-branched rhododendron are abundant, lining the sides of the trail.
