Balearic
A taula (meaning ‘table’ in Catalan) is a Stonehenge-esque stone monument found on the Balearic island of Menorca.

The greatest concentration of megalithic burials is in Korea. Archaeologists estimate that there are 15,000 to 100,000 southern megaliths in the Korean Peninsula. The antiquarians of the 18th and 19th centuries assumed they had been erected by invading forces of Romans, Goths, or Huns. It was a British antiquarian, Algernon Herbert, who in 1849 used the term megalith for the first time, derived from the Greek words megas, large, and lithos, stone.

Stonehenge in England, the most famous megalithic monument in the world. Stonehenge lies close to Salisbury in the south of England. It is the most iconic prehistoric monument on earth. Everybody is familiar with it, everyone wants to go and see it at least once.

Altar Stone A sandstone block within the inner horseshoe of stones at Stonehenge, which today lies underneath the fallen upright of the tallest trilithon. The Altar Stone is of a different geology from all the other stones, being a type of sandstone known to have been brought from south-east Wales.

According to the Bible, Tola (Hebrew: תּוֹלָע‎, Modern: Tōlaʻ, Tiberian: Tōlāʻ) was one of the Judges of Israel. His career is summarised in Judges 10:1-2. He judged Israel for 23 years after Abimelech died. He lived at Shamir in Mount Ephraim, where he was also buried.

At present, one tola gold is equivalent to 10 grams of gold. Once used by Ancient Indian and South Asian, the weight of one tola today is equal to 180 troy grains (11.6638038 grams) or 3/8 troy ounce. During the rule of British India, tola was used as the base unit of mass to weight and measure grains.

The Megalithic civilization hypothesis proposes that megaliths such as the Pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge, and other megalithic structures throughout the World, were built by a common group of people, or civilizations during the Neolithic period.

Taulas can be up to 3.7 metres high and consist of a vertical pillar (a monolith or several smaller stones on top of each other) with a horizontal stone lying on it.

What Menorca is most well-known for are its 13 taulas. These megaliths are said to resemble Stonehenge, and many have wondered about the mysterious origins of the taulas. The word taula means “table” in Catalan, which is one of the primary languages of Menorca.

Another common feature of the taulas is that they generally face a southerly direction with an unobstructed view of the horizon. Additionally, these taulas are unique to the Island of Menorca and located nowhere else in the Balearic Islands.
