Robert the Bruce’s son David succeeded him as king of Scotland and was himself succeeded by Robert’s grandson through the female line, Robert Stewart, the first of the Scottish royal house of Stewart and ancestor of the English house of Stuart. He is a direct ancestor of Queen Elizabeth II.

Robert the Bruce is one of the most famous kings of Scotland, known for his tenacious tendencies and encounters with spiders. Now researchers have found a Scottish businessman is the direct living descendant of one of the popular king’s great, great grandsons.

Thus Queen Anne became the last monarch of the ancient kingdoms of Scotland and England and the first of Great Britain, although the kingdoms had shared a monarch since 1603 (see Union of the Crowns). Her uncle Charles II was the last monarch to be crowned in Scotland, at Scone in 1651.

Clan Bruce (Scottish Gaelic: Brùs) is a Lowlands Scottish clan. It was a Royal House in the 14th century, producing two kings of Scotland (Robert the Bruce and David II of Scotland), and a disputed High King of Ireland, Edward Bruce….

Following the Jacobite line, the current King of Scotland would be Franz Bonaventura Adalbert Maria Herzog von Bayern, whose great-grandfather Ludwig III was the last Bavarian monarch before being deposed in 1918. Now 77 years old, his heir is his younger brother Max, 74, and then Sophie, his eldest niece.

Before the English and Scottish crowns were united under James VI and I, sources indicate it was intended to be used in much the same way the title Prince of Wales was used to designate the heir-apparent to the English throne, although the Scottish heir-apparent was addressed only as Duke of Rothesay until that time.

The current and longest-serving Prince of Wales is Prince Charles, the eldest son of Elizabeth II, who is Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other independent Commonwealth realms as well as Head of the 53-member Commonwealth of Nations. The wife of the Prince of Wales is entitled to the title Princess of Wales.
