Physics C was rated as the hardest AP Class you can take, with an average review of 8.1 / 10 (higher score = harder).

All you need to know for Physics 1 (newtonian mechanics) is basic derivatives for velocity and acceleration as well as some integrals for force, work and some moment of inertia problems. Physics 2 requires Calc 2 because you need to know different types of integrals such as trig substitution, and u substitution.

Physics C courses go into a great amount of depth about a few topics, while Physics 1 and 2 cover many topics with less depth. So just as US History is harder than World History, Physics C is tougher than Physics 1 and 2 because you need a greater depth of knowledge.

The difficulty of the two Physics C exams respective to each other is a much more personal problem. Most people tend to say the E&M is harder. Personally, I thought the E&M was easier. I left that exam feeling much more confident in my performance, than the Mechanics exam.

AP physics 2, which I took senior year, is a lot harder than high school level mechanics, with some fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, special relativity, and waves and optics. You never go far in any individual topic, but it’s a lot to cover so not that easy.

Depending on your course description, Physics 1 is most likely classical mechanics and Physics 2 is most likely electricity and magnetism. Neither is more difficult than the other, but it depends on if you’re better at mechanics or E&M. I found it harder than physics 1 because the concepts are much less intuitive.

Physics 1

Physics 2 is much easier. 1 has all this motion and gravity crap that has different forces all acting on the same thing and its confusing. 2 is up front and boom you have it.

You can just study the material on your own and then take the exam. If you pass then good 🙂 But just know, AP Physics 1 and 2 are algebra based which means colleges won’t necessarily give you credit for them. Anything is possible.

AP® Physics 1 is testing simple concepts and a lot easier than other tests to score a 5 on it….I would say the hardest topics are:

• Torque.
• Electricity.
• Kinetic and potential energy.

Physics 1 is level 1 in the Physics sequence. So, for a student enrolled in Precalculus in 11th grade alongside AP PHysics 1, AP Physics would be easier. For a student with a 95%+ in Honors Chemistry AP Chem may seem ok, but generally speaking AP Chem is considered one of the hardest AP’s.

A score of 3 or higher is generally considered good, because that means you passed the exam! A 4 is considered very good, and a 5 is especially impressive since it is the highest score. Also keep in mind that every college sets its own policy about AP credit.

If you want to study chemistry or chemical engineering, then take AP Chem. If you plan to study some type of physics or other engineering as an undergrad, you should take AP Physics. Because the AP Chem curriculum covers so many topics, the difficultly most have with the course is the sheer amount of work assigned.

Physics is more mathy while chem has alot of rote memorization. What is easier depends on what you will find more interesting therefore it’ll be easier to work harder. Also things like what book or who’s the professor makes all the difference.
