horizontal axis

In common usage, the abscissa refers to the horizontal (x) axis and the ordinate refers to the vertical (y) axis of a standard two-dimensional graph.

In a chart you create, axis labels are shown below the horizontal (category, or “X”) axis, next to the vertical (value, or “Y”) axis, and next to the depth axis (in a 3-D chart). Your chart uses text from its source data for these axis labels.

Right-click the category labels you want to change, and click Select Data.

1. In the Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels box, click Edit.
2. In the Axis label range box, enter the labels you want to use, separated by commas.

To change the interval between axis labels, expand Labels, and then under Interval between labels, select Specify interval unit and type the number you want in the text box.

Another name for the y-coordinate is the ordinate. Note: The x-coordinate or abscissa represents the directed distance of the point from the y-axis.

Constructing a Line Graph Line graphs consist of two axes: x-axis (horizontal) and y-axis (vertical), graphically denoted as (x,y). Each axis represents a different data type, and the points at which they intersect is (0,0). The y-axis is the dependent axis as its values depend on the x-axis’s values.

Moment of a force about a line is scalar Moment about an axis Triple scalar product. F is the force vector. In the figure above, the moment about the y-axis would be My= 20 (0.3) = 6 N·m. the moment about the x-axis would be Mx= 20 (0.4) = 8 N·m.

The Scalar analysis is a tool for extracting particular values or metrics and comparing them across series. Use this analysis when you want to create a chart with categories, such as countries, along the x-axis, and columns of values on the y-axis.

A moment applied to the body is positive if it tries to turn the body in a counter-clockwise direction and negative if it tries to turn the body in a clockwise direction.
