Former PGA Tour caddie Alfred “Rabbit” Dyer says that caddies may earn salaries of $2,000 per week, while “Forbes” magazine reports that PGA Tour caddies typically receive about $1,000 each week. The magazine said in a 2007 article that Steve Williams, then caddying for Tiger Woods, earned $1.27 million in 2006.

The idea was that Masters patrons easily could see members who would have accurate information. The reasons for their split are unconfirmed, but the feelings are strong. The fallout from Woods’ cheating scandal was so radioactive it poisoned his relationships on the golf course, too. Woods fired Williams in 2011, but the timing and reasoning behind the firing has been disputed.

How does the business arrangement typically work? Professionals’ caddies, just like the golfers for whom they work, are self-employed, independent contractors responsible for paying their own expenses.

Most weeks, when PGA Tour players miss the cut, they don’t get paid. Players earn their keep on the PGA Tour, and, aside from the few PGA Tour events that do not have a cut, a Tour pro must get past the 36-hole cut to get paid for the week.

A PGA Tour player who’s exempt from qualifying doesn’t have to pay entry fees for tour events. He does pay a $100 initiation fee, then $100 in annual dues. The only expense he must pay to play in a tournament is a mandatory $50 locker room fee.

In 2004, USA Today published a list of all the current members. Membership is believed to cost between $100,000 and $300,000 and annual dues were estimated in 2020 to be less than $30,000 per year. Club members are sometimes referred to as “green jackets.”

The annual dues for Tour members is $100. The Masters is not a PGA Tour event and is not run by the PGA Tour, so they can have different policies, however, there is also no entry fee for those invited to play at The Masters either.

An individual entry fee of $400 is paid by almost all the professional golfers participating in a pre-tournament qualifying event. Nationwide Tour and Champions players pay $100 each, whereas non-exempt PHA Tour members do not pay any entry fee.

Augusta National actually pays out every professional, regardless if they make the cut. That doesn’t happen at regular PGA Tour tournaments, unless they are non-cut events like WGCs or the Tour Championship. So what’s the haul for those players who miss the cut? They all get $10,000 each.
