Charles Babbage

The ENIAC was invented by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania and began construction in 1943 and was not completed until 1946. It occupied about 1,800 square feet and used about 18,000 vacuum tubes, weighing almost 50 tons.

Charles Babbage KH FRS (/ˈbæbɪdʒ/; 26 December 1791 – 18 October 1871) was an English polymath. A mathematician, philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer, Babbage originated the concept of a digital programmable computer. Babbage is considered by some to be “father of the computer”.

Douglas Engelbart invented the computer mouse in 1963–64 as part of an experiment to find a better way to point and click on a display screen. Fashioned at the Stanford Research Institute, it had a carved wood casing and just one button.

There are two major types of computer keyboards: Basic and Extended. The Basic keyboard contains 104 keys and is enough to perform all the functions that can be done on a Windows PC. The Extended keyboard may have additional keys, and the design varies among the companies manufacturing them.

There are five main parts to most desktop keyboards. These parts include the alphanumeric keypad, the numeric keypad, the arrow keys, the control keys, and the function keys.

The reason dates back to the time of manual typewriters. When first invented , they had keys arranged in an alphabetical order, but people typed so fast that the mechanical character arms got tangled up. So the keys were randomly positioned to actually slow down typing and prevent key jams.
