Balwant Singh Rajoana is the prime accused and convicted for the assassination of Beant Singh (former Chief Minister of Punjab) on 31 August 1995. Rajoana was sentenced to death on 1 August 2007 by a special CBI court in Chandigarh.

Widespread atrocities were carried out during the emergency. In 1980, she returned to power after free and fair elections. After Gandhi ordered military action in the Golden Temple in Operation Blue Star, her own bodyguards and Sikh nationalists assassinated her on 31 October 1984.

On 21 July 1960, following a landslide victory for the Freedom Party, Bandaranaike was sworn in as the first female prime minister in the world, as well as Minister of Defence and External Affairs.

Golden Temple, one of the most sacred holy sites for Sikhs around the world, is being renovated with 160 kg gold worth INR 50 crore. The gold plating is being done on the four domes at the entrance of the temple.

After a 24-hour firefight, the army gained control of the temple complex. Casualty figures for the army were 83 dead and 249 injured. According to the official estimates, 1,592 militants were apprehended and there were 493 combined militant and civilian casualties.

Many religious temples in India don’t allow any items of clothing or accessories made from the leather. There isn’t a rule to give up the leather, but the visitor should remove the shoes before entering the main premises.

The foundation stone was laid by Mian Mīr, a Muslim divine of Lahore (now in Pakistan). The temple was destroyed several times by Afghan invaders and was finally rebuilt in marble and copper overlaid with gold foil during the reign (1801–39) of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

The temple – which is also known as Darbar Sahib – is in the city of Amritsar which was founded in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ram Das with the fifth, Guru Arjan designing the temple. The temple started to be built in 1581 with the first version of the temple taking eight years.

Contrary to what many people believe, the holy scripture for sikhs, Shri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS), is not present in NASA. They do have a huge library of books but till date there has been no evidence of SGGS being present there.

The Golden temple is famous for its full golden dome, it is one of the most sacred pilgrim spots for Sikhs. The Mandir is built on a 67-ft square of marble and is a two storied structure. Maharaja Ranjit Singh had the upper half of the building built with approximately 400 kg of gold leaf.

A total of 160-Kg of gold is to be used to beautify the four entrances domes of the Golden Temple complex.
