He wrote a James Bond movie But Dahl did write the screenplay for 1967’s You Only Live Twice, the fifth movie starring Sean Connery as 007.

Roald Dahl (1916-1990) was the author responsible for the original storyline for EON’s fifth James Bond movie You Only Live Twice, and he also adapted Ian Fleming’s children’s story Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the big screen, but his own life could also have been straight out of the world of fiction.

Ian Fleming, famous author of the James Bond novels, also wrote a children’s book which was made into a movie.

In 1967 the James Bond film You Only Live Twice is released. The screenplay, written by Roald Dahl, is adapted from the book by Roald’s wartime friend Ian Fleming. It enjoys great Box Office success.

The title was “You Only Live Twice”. This sounds a bit strange, since usually we say: “You only live once”. Life is a one-time opportunity. I interpreted the title as meaning that James Bond could survive very dangerous situations that would kill most people, so it was like “James Bond can live twice”.

Himeji Castle in Hyōgo Prefecture was depicted as Tanaka’s ninja training camp. The village of Bonotsucho Akime was where Bond and his Ama wife lived and where the Ama scenes were shot. The ryokan Shigetomi-so (now known as Shimazu Shigetomisoh Manor) was used as the exterior of Tanaka’s house.

The cat eventually breaks free from Blofeld’s arms and while it does make it out of the first door with the others it is nowhere to be seen when Blofeld escapes on a monorail car. Final Mewsings: Only a truly evil villain leaves his cat behind to blow up in a volcano.

Himeji Castle

Sadanoyama Shinmatsu is a real sumo wrestler who makes a cameo in the 1967 movie You Only Live Twice. Upon his arrival in Japan, Bond meets with the sumo wrestler Sadoyanama who gives him tickets to the match. He was played by himself. The Knife assassin is a very minor henchman in the 1967 film You Only Live Twice.
