The Photos Preferences on the Mac has all the options checked, and “Download Originals to this Mac” selected. Try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing by unchecking the box. Wait a couple of minutes, then check syncing. This will cause a full sync.

The Smarter Option

1. Quit the Photos app (do not just close it).
2. Open the Activity Monitor (use Launchpad to find it if you’re struggling).
3. Type Photos Agent in the search box.
4. Click on the Photos Agent entry to highlight it.
5. Click on the cross icon in the upper left-hand corner of the window.
6. A new window will pop up.

If you’re not sure know how to do this, follow these steps. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos. Turn off Shared Albums. The albums and photos will automatically be added again when you turn this setting back on.

If you upload a lot of pictures, then enable the “Unlimited Update” option as well. Sometimes, all it takes to fix the iCloud Photo Library not syncing issue is a simple reset. Go to your phone’s Settings > iCloud > Photos and turn off the option of “iCloud Photo Library”. Restart your device and follow the same drill.

If iPhone photos are not showing up on your Mac in iCloud, you should also check whether the options are set up correctly. On iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos and then switch on iCloud Photo Library and My Photo Stream. Then turn on iCloud Photo Library and My Photo Stream.

How to use the Photos Repair Library on your Mac

1. If Photos is open, close the app. Then, while you click to open Photos, hold down the Command and Option keys at the same time.
2. In the window that opens, click Repair to start the repair process. You might be asked to enter your user account password.

Check that Wi-Fi is on and you have an internet connection. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos. Make sure Upload to My Photo Stream is turned on. If you don’t see this option, turn on iCloud Photos to keep your photos and videos in iCloud instead.

How do I get My Photo Stream to update?

1. Use the same Apple ID. My Photo Stream only syncs with the Apple ID it’s connected to; ensure that you’re logged into the same Apple ID on all of your devices.
2. Turn on My Photo Stream on all devices.
3. Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.
4. Plug your iPhone into power.

If iCloud photos are not syncing to a Mac, open the “Accounts” menu of the iCloud app. Check that the same Apple ID is logged in across all devices. Make sure that the photos are appearing on that Apple account on iCloud.

Turning the iCloud Photo Library on an iPhone off and then on again may also fix an iCloud Photo Library sync issue. Make sure the phone is connected to Wi-Fi and take these steps: Tap on “iCloud” and then “Photos.” Toggle the “iCloud Photos” to the “Off” and then “On” position.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud. Make sure that you’re signed in with the same Apple ID that you’re using with iCloud for Windows. Open iCloud for Windows, and next to Photos, click Options. Turn on My Photo Stream.
