Originally a NOFX cover band, the group we now know as Sum 41 began their humble beginnings under the moniker “Kaspir”. When the band began to take things seriously, however, they decided to change their name for a Supernova show on September 28, 1996, which happened to be the 41st day of summer.

I’d totally go for Sum 41 (sorry Blink 182 fans). But truth be told, I don’t think these two bands can be compared with each other. Apart from the fact that both of these bands are punk rock bands, they’re totally different in every aspect. Their lyrics, music, videos, are different and are very less similar.

His pop punk band, Sum 41, rose to fame in the early 00s, selling over 30million albums. He briefly dated Paris Hilton, before marrying Avril Lavigne in July 2006. Lavigne has suggested that she helped Whibley deal with his earlier demons – namely drugs.

Guitarist Dave Baksh, who was also a founding member, left Sum 41 in 2006 to join new band Brown Brigade after citing the classic line: “creative differences”. Last week, Sum 41 dropped out from supporting Billy Talent on their Canadian tour because of Whibley’s reoccurring back pain.

While rock was being pushed out of the mainstream, Sum 41 was cultivating a stalwart old-school rock fanbase with the classic sounds of 2011’s Screaming Bloody Murder and 2016’s 13 Voices. Deryck Whibley is 39 years old now.

Sum 41 is third. They’re a good band, but not nearly as successful as the other two or as consistent as Green Day.

For years, Sum 41 sang about drinking and partying, and embodied the carefree, fast-living attitude expected of punk rockers. But in April 2014, that lifestyle caught up with frontman Deryck Whibley, who collapsed in his kitchen when his liver and kidneys failed following a night of heavy drinking.

Brown Brigade (2006–2008) On May 11, 2006, Baksh announced in a statement through his management company that he was leaving Sum 41 for personal reasons. He explained that he could not keep trying to express himself through guitar skills without being a pain to the band.

The name Blink was thought up by Tom DeLonge when the band consisted of Tom, Mark, and their friend Scott Raynor (before Blink they called themselves Duck Tape). They were forced to change it because an Irish electronica artist was already using that name, so they added “182” to the end.

“I’ve spoken with Tom one time since 2014 and it was totally genial enough and it was fine. Barker revealed earlier this year that he and Delonge are still friends and in a new chat with Rock Zone Mag (via Alternative Nation), he said the possibility of Delonge re-joining the band is on the cards.
