Regardless of who did the inciting, David’s military commander Joab argued they should not take a census because it would bring disaster to the people of Israel. David was guilt stricken and prayed for God’s forgiveness. God gave him three options for a punishment.

Abner begged Asahel to stop pursuing him, but when Asahel refused to desist, Abner thrust the blunt end of a spear through Asahel’s stomach, and Asahel died on the spot (cf. 2 Samuel 2:23). Although Joab won the battle, Abner escaped with his life; Asahel was buried in his father’s tomb at Bethlehem.

Joab, one of David’s generals, took three javelins and thrust them into Absalom’s heart. Then ten of Joab’s armor-bearers circled Absalom and killed him. To his generals’ surprise, David was heartbroken over the death of his son, the man who tried to kill him and steal his throne.

He is first mentioned as murdering his half brother Amnon, David’s eldest son, in revenge for the rape of his full sister Tamar. For a time he seemed completely successful; David, with a few followers and his personal guard, fled across the Jordan, leaving to Absalom Jerusalem and the main portion of the kingdom.

8 wives

Of his 13 wives, only two bore him children: Khadija and Maria al-Qibtiyya. Muhammad’s life is traditionally delineated by two epochs: pre-hijra Mecca, a city in western Arabia, from the year 570 to 622 CE, and post-hijra in Medina, from 622 until his death in 632….Muhammad’s wives.

Wives brought a dowry to a relationship, but concubines did not. The position of the concubine was generally inferior to that of the wife. Although a concubine could produce heirs, her children would be inferior in social status to a wife’s children, although they were of higher status than illegitimate children.

In 1949, the Communists banned the practice, seeing it as a sign of bourgeois decadence, but now, after two decades of market economy, concubines have returned – the “ernai”, meaning “second wife”.

Concubinage, the state of cohabitation of a man and a woman without the full sanctions of legal marriage. The word is derived from the Latin con (“with”) and cubare (“to lie”). The Judeo-Christian term concubine has generally been applied exclusively to women, although a cohabiting male may also be called a concubine.

Wives and concubines According to the biblical account, Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. The wives were described as foreign princesses, including Pharaoh’s daughter and women of Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon and of the Hittites.

United States Polygamy is the act or condition of a person marrying another person while still being lawfully married to another spouse. It is illegal in the United States. The crime is punishable by a fine, imprisonment, or both, according to the law of the individual state and the circumstances of the offense.

Naamah

In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in. all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

In a dream, God asks King Solomon what gift he’d like. And Solomon can choose anything – courage, strength, even money or fame. He chooses an understanding heart. And God is so pleased with Solomon’s choice that He gives him every other good gift, too.

David

King Solomon sent a message to Hiram king of Tyre, who had been friends with his father David and sent David lots of wood to build his palace with. In this message, Solomon said that he wanted to build a temple for the Lord, and asked Hiram to send him wood. From there they could take the wood up to Jerusalem.

David, (flourished c. 1000 bce), second king of ancient Israel. He founded the Judaean dynasty and united all the tribes of Israel under a single monarch. His son Solomon expanded the empire that David built. David is an important figure in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Saul

As Samuel turns to go, Saul seizes hold of his garments and tears off a piece; Samuel prophesies that the kingdom will likewise be torn from Saul. Samuel then kills the Amalekite king himself. Samuel and Saul each return home and never meet again after these events.

In Acts 13:9, Saul is called “Paul” for the first time on the island of Cyprus – much later than the time of his conversion. The author of Luke–Acts indicates that the names were interchangeable: “Saul, who also is called Paul.” He refers to him as Paul through the remainder of Luke–Acts.

Thus, David did not witness the defeat of the Israelites under Saul, who was mortally wounded by the Philistines and whose sons were killed. In an act of heroism so that he, the king of Israel, would not be captured, Saul committed suicide by falling on his own sword.

Mount Gilboa, Israel

Saul, Jonathan, and Jonathan’s brothers were killed in a battle against the Philistines at Mt. Gilboa. Despoiled and exposed by the Philistines, the bodies were rescued by men from Jabesh-gilead and buried in Jabesh.

According to the Books of Samuel of the Tanakh, Mephibosheth (or Mephibaal) was the son of Jonathan, grandson of King Saul and father of Mica or Micha. After the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, Mephibosheth’s nurse took him and fled in panic. In her haste, the child fell, or was dropped while fleeing.
