The highly anticipated Counter-Strike 2 is just around the corner, and many gamers are wondering if they will still be able to play the older Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) game after the release of Counter-Strike 2. Will CS:GO to be deleted after CS2 launch? Here's all the info on whether Counter Strike 2 will replace CSGO at release.

Will Source 2 have a new matchmaking system?

We have reason to believe that Counter-Strike 2 "will replace the older game" known as CS:GO. Currently, in CS2 Beta, the game files are located in the CS:GO installation folder. On top of that, SteamDB lists Counter-Strike 2 with app ID – 2279720, but it's in a parent app with ID 730, which is for CS:GO.

So during the beta, Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test was inside CS:GO. When I accessed the CS2 beta, the Steam app asked me every time if I wanted to launch Counter-Strike 2 or the older game, confirming that both games were in the same folder. After that, Valve has already confirmed some features in Counter-Strike 2 that point towards CS2 replacing CS:GO when the new game launches.

When the CS2 Limited Test was announced, Valve said you "bring your entire CS:GO inventory to Counter-Strike 2." Furthermore, the developers went on to mention that every CS:GO item a player has collected and used over the years will "benefit from Source 2 lighting and materials."
