So, X-Men '97 Episode 5 just dropped, and trust me when I say it, after watching it, I might need to schedule myself a therapy session. This episode started happily with the state of Genosha finally becoming a member of the United Nations. But how it ended left me shocked and wide-eyed. Episode 5 starts to get dark in the middle and never stops until the very last frame.

X-MEN 97 EPISODE 5 BREAKDOWN! Easter Eggs & Details you missed!

Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers for X-Men '97 Episode 5.

Episode 5 of X-Men '97 brings us the destruction of Genosha at the hands of the Sentinels, but since Magneto, Rogue and Gambit were still arguing, I had little hope that they would get things under control. Well, to say I was wrong would be an understatement. We see Magneto use a train to fight the Sentinel's mothership but it proves useless. Although Magneto fought hard, he was overpowered and killed.

Just as I was processing the trauma of seeing Magneto die, Gambit went head-on at the Mothership and when I thought he was going to take it down, he got stabbed by it. Using his powers, Gambit, still clinging to the mothership, caused it to explode and laid down his life in great honor. When the episode ended with Rogue holding Gambit and saying, "I can't feel you," it left me speechless and shocked.
