Q. Do LED Christmas lights use a lot of electricity?

Yes! LED lights consume 80-90% less energy than incandescent bulbs, and last up to 100,000 hours, versus 3,000 hours for an incandescent. Combine this with the durable construction of LEDs, and savings extend beyond electricity. Shop ENERGY STAR approved LED Christmas lights!

You can daisy-chain a GFI just like a regular receptacle, with one difference. The incoming wires must connect to the “line” terminals while the outgoing wires must connect to “load.”

14 AWG is fine for outlets in areas like living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, family rooms… where most items that get plugged in there are lighter duty. However, 12 AWG (and, more generally, 20 amp circuits) are required in some areas (kitchen countertops) by the NEC.

Q. Is it OK to mix 12 and 14-gauge wire?

Anyway, the first subject is a bit touchy because it makes it difficult to perform an inspection when all of the wires coming into the panel are 12 but many of the circuits have 14 in them too. There is nothing against code mixing wire size for these circuits as long as the OCPD matches the smallest wire.

Q. Can you run 14-gauge wire on a 20 amp breaker?

You can not use 14 AWG anywhere on a circuit that has a 20A breaker. If you are putting 15 amp receptacles on a 20 amp circuit with 12 gauge wire, then you MUST use the screw terminals, not the back stab terminals. Just use the side terminals.
